RoadTrip: Hero Tour Review

Date: 9th November 2019

Location: Asylum, Birmingham

This was the second to last date on RoadTrip’s Hero Tour and RoadTrip fans were waiting energetically for the five piece boy band made up of Andy Fowler, Rye Beaumont, Brooklyn Wyatt, Jack Duff and Sonny Robertson to perform. As always they had Wiggy keeping them entertained with his pop classics and his impressive dance moves.

Opening the show was Ellie Dibben who is as talented as she is glamorous. She opened with a fiery cover of Ed Sheeran’s ‘Castle On The Hill’ which had the crowd screaming along, next she sang her enchanting new single ‘Poison / Medicine’ to a receptive room of supporters. She then closed her set with some powerful female anthems that had the predominantly female audience feeling empowered and passionately singing back to her.

Harper was on next, who the fans already know well because he supported the band on their last tour, therefore as always he had the entire audience captivated the second he stepped onto the stage (myself included). He made his way through his set of indulgent slow covers of ‘Teenage Dream’, ‘Saturday Nights’ and ‘Without Me’ before concluding his set with his absolutely mesmerising version of Billie Eilish and Khalid’s single ‘Lovely’, where he makes his way to stand at the edge of the stage to sing to his audience of entranced fans.

After a few moments of their fans waiting anxiously for their favourite band, the title track from ‘The Greatest Showman’ started blaring through the speakers which was met with excited screams from the audience who knew that that was the cue for the start of RoadTrip’s set. The boys then bounded onto the stage singing the familiar track ‘The One That Got Away’ to an array of screams from the room. They made there way through their set list of original songs that they’ve released in their years as a band together; the list included all the songs from the recent ‘Dynamite EP’ and fan favourites such as ‘No No No’ and ‘Take This Home’. The band made a conscious effort to interact with their fans consistently throughout the show and as part of the ‘Hero’ theme they invited the best superhero dressed fan on stage who this time was entertainingly dressed as a bacon shard with a cape.

RoadTrip neared a close to their set with ‘Dynamite’ before leaving the stage only to arrive back minutes later to an enthusiastic audience, where they concluded with an exclusive performance of their new song ‘Hero’; which their most dedicated fans already knew the lyrics to. They closed their set with amorous 2017 single ‘After the Show’ which had the room appreciatively cheering as the show came to a close and Andy, Rye, Brooklyn, Jack and Sonny made their way backstage stage to unwind before their meet and greet with their devoted Roadies.
